HOW TO PREP FOR PAINT

"It’s all in the prep!

PREP is based on the surface you are going to paint.

HOW TO PREP FOR PAINT

Start by assessing surface you are working with.

Cleaning is the most important part of prep - if there is any grease or oil, use a degreaser to clean like TSP watch this video from Loree https://www.facebook.com/loree.pringle/videos/829627190706465/

If the surface is super shiny, give it a quick scuff sand to dull or remove the slick surface, this gives your paint something to stick to.

Check for wax by using your thumb nail to scratch the surface – if it rumples and lifts, you have wax. Remove the wax with mineral spirits.

If you are painting melamine, glass or a shiny surface you may need Ultragrip to help the paint stick to impossible surfaces. Here a video on Ultragrip https://youtu.be/6LBw9IWjCYE

If you think the item will bleed stain or wood tannins (typical with red woods and knotty pine) through your new paint, apply the Shellac Based Primer from Zinsser. Heres a video on priming with BIN Shellac
